China Tours… Just as Varied as the Country Itself
China tours have become highly popular since the People’s Republic opened its doors to mass tourism. There are so many options now that it’s easy to get confused. Let’s describe what you can expect, depending on where you go.
The Chinese capital Beijing, the ancient city of Xian and cosmopolitan Shanghai are included in most China tours – unless you opt not to go for the major cities. Guilin and Hong Kong are also popular among tourists.
The North China plain, with Beijing and the Yellow River, has always been one of the most important regions for Chinese civilization, and it’s almost inevitable you will go there. It’s also possible to book a tour that also takes you further down the countryside, for a example for a river cruise on the mighty Yangtze.
Being a country with a great variety of landscapes it’s also worthwhile to go and see beautiful mountains like the majestic Yellow Mountain, China’s most celebrated mountain with three peaks above 1,800 meters. You’ll find the Yellow Mountain in the southern part of Anhui Province. If you think of mountains, you’ll quickly think of Tibet. It has never been so easy to visit this remote land in the south west of China since a new railway to Lhasa was opened. Yes, you can now travel to the roof of the world in a comfortable train carriage!
Train travel is popular in China and a great way to discover the country’s cities and nature. Trains also offer excellent opportunities to get acquainted with the Chinese people.
Neighboring Tibet is the mountainous borderland of Yunnan, known as China’s kingdom of flora and fauna. This is another fascinating part of the country and recommended to all lovers of exceptional natural sceneries. Several China tours include Yunnan’s capital Kunming, because of its pleasant weather also known as the city of eternal spring.
If it’s your first time visiting China I recommend booking a tour that includes the major cities and the Great Wall. For future trips some of the numerous other China tours will definitely satisfy you too.

Tour China – Exploring The Red Giant
These days it’s almost impossible to open a newspaper or turn on the news without hearing some mention of China. This vast, spectacular and very beautiful country is already playing a huge part in global markets and interest in China as a tourist destination is mirroring its economic growth.
One of the dilemmas that face travellers wanting to visit China is its vast scale. China is the 4th largest country in the world, and has huge diversity; from high-tech skyscraper cities like Shanghai, to the snow capped mountains of Tibet; from the ‘wild west’ of Xingjian province with its shifting sands and desert outposts, to tropical bamboo forests of the Sichuan – where giant pandas roam – the choice of locations may seem bewildering.
With this in mind, it’s little wonder that escorted tours to China are one of the most popular ways to enjoy the country. These touring holidays offer visitors an opportunity to see the best parts of the country and really get the most out of the China experience. A wide range of escorted tour holidays are on offer to suit all types of traveller, from the adrenaline seeker who wants activity and adventure in remote parts of the country, to those who’d prefer to explore the history and culture of China.
There is also the choice of opting for a private guide, or joining a group tour. If you already have a group of friends who intend to travel together, a private tour might be preferable. However, group tours are very popular with small groups, single travellers or couples, as it is a great way to meet others with similar interests and also share the camaraderie of your trip.
Another massive advantage of joining an escorted tour group is that it removes the headaches of travelling in an unfamiliar place. China can be a tricky country to navigate for the foreigner who doesn’t speak Chinese and is unfamiliar with the culture. A tour holiday means that all accommodation and travel is already arranged, leaving visitors free to enjoy their trip; while having an English speaking guide who also speaks the local language, on hand to answer any questions and attend to any problems, not only provides peace of mind for travellers but also means that you can learn much more about the people and places you visit.
It’s worth taking your time when choosing China tours that are most suited to your tastes; do you want an urban experience, or an outback adventure? Are you a culture vulture or are you more interested in China’s history? Whatever you’re looking for in China, with an escorted tour group you’re certain to find plenty of eastern promise in this huge, diverse and fascinating country that offers so much for visitors.

China Tours – My Memorable Classic China Excursion
Vacation in China would be the dream of every vacationer. But the country is so large that it is almost impossible to know exactly what to do without good background knowledge of what, where, when and how.
Most visitors on their first time travel to China, they will choose Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Guilin, Hong Kong and the Yangtze River as their preferable destinations. This article presents my memorable 10 days classic China excursion. We started the trip in Beijing and ended the trip in Hong Kong.
We got into Beijing on one fine afternoon in the autumn and met our first local tour guide, Jenny. Jenny is a lovely young lady and looked after us very well the following days in Beijing. As the capital of China, Beijing has a long history with an abundance of historical and cultural heritage that represents treasures from the city civilizations. It is undoubtedly number one place to go for China tour destination and draws millions of tourists annually. We spent 3 days to see all the must sees of Beijing including the Badaling Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace.
What the most impressive for us is the day when we visited the Badaling Great Wall. After touring the majestic Badaling Great Wall, we drove back to our hotel. On the way driving back, we saw the Beijing National Stadium (Bird Nest) and National Aquatics Centre (Water Cube) in the Olympic Park. We already saw theses magnificent looking on TV during 2008 Olympic Game, but we were exciting to see them on live and felt so happy to have a chance to take several photos.
Xian was our second stop after Beijing. Xian is a city with time-honored history. It is the city can bring you back in time to ancient Chinese civilization. Anyone comes to Xian, the 6,000 life-size painted terracotta warriors and horses flash into your mind first. A highlight sightseeing to Xian is definitely a visit to the amazing archeological relics of the terracotta Warriors and Horses.
Cycling atop the Ancient City Wall in Xian should be unique experience for us in China tour. The Ancient City Walls were built during the 14th century on Tang dynasty foundations and they dated from the Ming dynasty. The walls are the largest and best-preserved ancient fortress in the world.
Long before I visited China, I was told that Guilin is the best of best city you should not miss on a China tour because Guilin owns the most famous landscape in China. As soon as we stepped off the plane, Guilin’s colorful sights, aromatic smells and people’s gentle smiles conjured up an indescribably magical aura.
By cruising on the tranquil Li River one day while we were in Guilin, we were certainly walking into a traditional Chinese painting. After the boat trip, we stayed overnight in Yangshuo county and drove back to Guilin the next day. We have to mention the great outdoors performance in Yangshuo. The guide arranged this performance for us flexibly since the performance was originally excluded in our schedule.
In Yangshuo, there is a great culture performance with 2,400-seat stadium. It has the biggest natural stage in the world and is built in the Li River, which stretches for 2 kilometers long with 12 mountain peaks as its background. All performers are local, mostly from Zhuang and Yao background and more than 600 people play on the performance. The show in Yangshuo was super exciting.
We ended our trip in Hong Kong to explore Hong Kong’s unique blend of Chinese heritage and colonial influences. We visited Victoria Peak, the floating community of Aberdeen and Repulse Bay of Hong Kong Island, the Wong Tai Sin Temple and the Jade Market in Kowloon.
At night Hong Kong is especially lovely when the lights are lit. The night life in Hong Kong has a unique glamour. In the evening, we went to Lan Kwai Fong which is an L-shaped, cobble-stoned lane with numerous bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants. While we were walking in this street, the most language we heard here was English rather than Cantonese speaking.
